7 Health Checkup Tests Nigerians Must Take This Year

Health Checkup Tests should be the new normal. Waiting until there is an emergency before visiting the hospital or getting a health test done is a risky habit that needs to end with the Covid pandemic.

A simple blood test can help spot potential health issues before they become a problem. When you see your doctor and go for your lab tests regularly, you detect health conditions or diseases early.

By prioritising your health screenings, and treatment you are taking important steps toward living a longer, healthier life. Early detection gives you the best chance of getting the right treatment quickly, avoiding any complications.

Regular blood tests would help you and your doctor track the functions of various body organs like the liver, kidneys, heart, and thyroid.

Why do I need to get tested?

  1. Check for current or emerging medical problems
  2. Assess your risk of future medical issues.
  3. Prompt you to maintain a healthy lifestyle
  4. Lower healthcare costs.

What tests are covered in the package?

Colon Cancer Screening (Stool Occult Blood): This test identifies the presence of cancerous or precancerous growths in the colon by detecting blood that is invisible to the naked eye. This type of screening can find problems that can be treated before cancer develops and spreads. Regular screenings may reduce the risk for death and complications caused by colorectal cancer.

Stool MCS: This test is used to determine what type of bacteria are present in your digestive tract. Some types of bacteria can cause infection or disease. By testing your stool, your doctor can learn which bacteria is present.

Urine MCS: This is a test that can be used to detect bacteria in the urine. This test can find and identify the germs that cause a urinary tract infection (UTI). Bacteria typically cause UTIs to enter the urinary tract through the urethra.

Hepatitis C Antibody: Hepatitis C is a virus that attacks the human liver. It causes damage and over time destroys the liver by killing the cells. A Hepatitis C antibody test is used to find out if one is infected by the virus.

HIV Rapid: HIV makes a person exposed to some certain disease, and also has a higher risk of contracting other STDs. When HIV is left untreated, it worsens the complications and may lead to life-threatening issues.

Full Blood Count Screening: This blood test is used to evaluate overall health. This can be used to foresee a wider range of disorders, such as infection, anemia, leukemia. Full blood count tests evaluate different elements and form the blood, such as Hemoglobin, red blood cells, white blood cells, hematocrit, and Platelets.

Full Cholesterol Test (Lipid Profile): This test is the measurement of the overall cholesterol level in the body. Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol is bad cholesterol. High-density lipoprotein HDL cholesterol: This is good cholesterol because it helps remove LDL cholesterol from your blood.

Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Elisa: This test is intended for the qualitative detection of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) at a sensitivity level of 0.10 IU/ml in human serum or plasma. It can be detected in high levels in serum during acute or chronic hepatitis B Virus infection. The presence of HBsAg shows that the person is infectious.

Thyroid Function Test (T3, T4 & TSH): Our full thyroid test panel measures your thyroid hormone levels. It also checks for the presence of any thyroid antibodies which can cause autoimmune thyroid disease.

C – Reactive Protein Test (CRP): This test can detect inflammation in the body. High CRP in the body is not indicative but may indicate the presence of an underlying inflammatory disease and can identify deterioration or damage that you may not be aware of.

Diabetes (HBA1C) Test: This test is used to measure your average blood glucose level. This helps to indicate your risk of pre-diabetes and diabetes.

Fasting Blood Sugar: This measures blood sugar level after an overnight fast (not eating). This indicates the glucose level where elevated results may indicate diabetes condition. A fasting blood test is best done in the morning before breakfast as it requires eight hour fasting period.

Full Liver Function Test: A liver function test measures the levels of a range of things in your blood such as protein, liver enzymes, and bilirubin. Measuring these things can help check your liver function and also check for signs and inflammation or damage.

Kidney Function Test (Electrolyte/Urea/Creatinine): This test checks if your kidneys are working properly. This test measures the level of urea, creatinine, and certain dissolved salts (electrolytes) in the body.

Prostate Cancer (PSA) Screening: Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men worldwide. This cancer often shows no symptoms in the early stages. The PSA test measures the level of prostate-specific antigen which may be elevated in prostate cancer.

Cervical Cancer Screening (HPV): It is recommended that cervical cancer screening with an HPV test should be carried out every 5 years for everyone with a cervix from age 25 to 65. During the HPV test, the phlebotomist/nurse will use a plastic or metal instrument called a speculum to widen the vagina. This helps the doctor/nurse examine the vagina and the cervix, and collect a few cells and mucus from the cervix and the area around it.
