Who Should Get Screened for STIs?

No matter who you are or what you do, one thing is certain: your health should always be a priority. When it comes to sexual health, the spotlight is on screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

But who exactly should be stepping up to get screened for STIs?

1. Anyone who is aged 13 to 64

Any adult or adolescent within the age range of 13 and 64 should get tested for HIV at least once. It’s like a universal health checkup for your love life. Why? Because early detection is key to effective management and prevention

2. Young women

If you’re a sexually active woman under 25, annual screenings for gonorrhea and chlamydia are your jam. If you’re 25 or older and sexually active or if your partner has an STD, it’s your cue to get screened for STIs annually!

3. Pregnant women

Ensuring a healthy start for your little one means getting tested for syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C early in your pregnancy. It’s like setting the stage for a safe and happy arrival. But that’s not all; if you’re at risk, don’t forget to add chlamydia and gonorrhea to your pregnancy screening checklist.

4. Men Who Have Sex with Men

If you identify as gay, bisexual, or just a man who has sex with other men, you should be screened at least once a year for syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. If you have multiple or anonymous partners, you might want to make it a biannual or quarterly affair. Don’t forget about HIV – annual testing is a must. If you’re living with HIV, get tested for Hepatitis C as well

5. People at a significantly higher risk of STIs

If you have multiple partners or you have habits that involve sharing needles, you’re at a high risk for infection. Take STI tests as often as possible. Annual HIV testing is important to continue to have a healthy sex life and enjoy good health.

6. People who have anal and oral sex:

For those who enjoy a bit of variety in their romantic repertoire, don’t forget to chat with your healthcare provider about throat and rectal testing options. Keeping all aspects of your health in check is the ultimate act of self-love.

In the world of STI screenings, there’s no room for hesitation. Your sexual health is a priority, and regular screenings are your backstage pass to a worry-free love life.
